I spent the entire morning and some of the afternoon with a group of three women and one man coming up with new designs for them. I showed them how the wire they have can be bent to create clasps and shapes, like the hearts pictured to the left. They were excited about the new technique and tried it out. The group said they'll definitely incorporate it into jewelry made in the future.
Some of the beads they had were beautiful multicolored glass beads imported from west Africa and others were made of dyed cow bones (the black and white ones pictured). The red and blue beads were actually made by one of the men in the group. They start as a blend of chemicals which are dyed and once they harden they're shaped and filed.
